More information: This highly anticipated album is the band's first live release, the majority of which was recorded at their show at The Junction, Cambridge on 28 November 2023.
The concert fills two CDs, each featuring eight tracks. Combined, the two discs represent the entire concert in performance order.
Disc One kicks off the journey through the Gryphon catalogue taking the listener back to the familiarity of the band's eponymous first album (released in 1973). Fast forward to 2018 with a track from comeback album Reinvention, before bringing everything right up to date with songs from Get Out of My Father's Car (2020), their most recent release.
Disc Two travels through a mix of new and old material including tracks from Red Queen To Gryphon Three (1974) before returning the expedition full circle to the first album, with the medieval romp of Estampie, as an encore piece.
Gryphon's music defies categorisation and is hard to describe. It can perhaps be compared with an abstract painting built from seemingly incongruous images that individually may jar the senses, but through the vision and expertise of the artist, they coalesce and become complementary. In this way Gryphon's music manages to create a kaleidoscopic fantasy of atmospheric sound. The compositions have been meticulously scored, enabling the band to perfectly reproduce their pieces live on stage, where their diverse musical skills draw the listener into an aural journey through the show.
