More information: This show was the middle night of three consecutive concerts at the venue, taking place on November 25th, 26th, and 27th. The Mama tour supported Genesis’s self-titled thirteenth album and ultimately comprised seventy-three shows across the United States and Canada, beginning on November 6th in Normal, Illinois, before concluding with five dates in Birmingham, England in late February 1984.
The three Philadelphia shows were professionally recorded for radio broadcast, resulting in great sound quality, and this releasee is a mixture of all three nights ensuring the best performances are included.
The setlist featured a mix of material from the new Genesis album alongside progressive classics from earlier in their career. Opening powerfully with “Dodo/Lurker” and including tracks like “Abacab,” “That’s All,” “Mama,” and “Home by the Sea.” The band also performed an elaborate medley during “In the Cage” that incorporated sections of “Cinema Show,” “In That Quiet Earth,” and “The Colony of Slipperman,” showcasing their progressive rock roots.
During the final encore of “Turn It On Again,” the band incorporates a medley that includes snippets of cover songs such as “Everybody Needs Somebody,” “Satisfaction,” “The Last Time,” “All Day and All of the Night,” and“In The Midnight Hour.”
