More information: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was released on 22 November 1974, and to bring it to life, Genesis embarked on an ambitious world tour that would become legendary for its scope and spectacle. The band performed the entire album each night, complete with synchronised slides, elaborate lighting, costume changes and surreal visuals that mirrored Rael’s strange journey. While the production dazzled audiences, it also proved financially draining and logistically demanding. Behind the scenes, tensions within the group were rising, and by the end of the tour Peter Gabriel would make the momentous decision to leave Genesis, closing a defining chapter in their history.
The Liverpool performance captured here is widely regarded as one of the finest of the entire tour. Recorded on 19 April 1975 at the Empire Theatre, the show found the band revelling in a playful yet frenetic spirit, delivering an electrifying performance before an adoring audience. Also broadcast on FM radio, the complete set performed by Genesis that night can now be heard in full on this new CD, a crucial document from a pivotal moment in the band’s remarkable career.
