More information: Remastered box set gathering the three albums Adrian Belew released on Atlantic Records between 1989 and 1992, Mr Music Head (1989), Young Lions (1990) and Inner Revolution (1992). David Bowie sings lead vocals on two tracks on Young Lions (which also includes a version of King Crimson’s Heartbeat).
Adrian Belew first came to prominence as guitarist and vocalist in Frank Zappa’s band in 1977 and his contribution to the album 'Sheik Yerbouti' and the concert film Baby Snakes. In 1978 he accepted an invitation to join David Bowie’s band on the Isolar II world tour, and he subsequently appeared on Bowie’s albums 'Stage' and 'Lodger.
He contributed to Tom Tom Club’s debut album and embarked on a solo career in 1981, the same year he also joined a reformed King Crimson as second guitarist and vocalist. Following King Crimson’s hiatus in 1984 he formed The Bears, an acclaimed power pop band, but revived his solo career in 1989, signing to Atlantic Records and releasing the album 'Mr Music Head' on which he played most of the instrumentation himself. His acclaimed 1990 album 'Young Lions' featured David Bowie on the songs 'Pretty Pink Rose' and 'Gunman' (the latter song being co-written by Belew and Bowie).
Adrian’s final solo album for Atlantic was the 1992 release 'Inner Revolution', an album which featured a collection of quirky songs inspired by 1960s pop music. 'The Atlantic Years 1989-1992' is a fine, eclectic body of music by a gifted and influential musician and a long overdue celebration of his many talents.
