Review: Salva are back with their 3rd album and long awaited follow-up to the highly acclaimed 'Left To Burn', released in 2007. Review: SEVEN DAY HUNT is a new band. Sort of, but not really. SEVEN DAY HUNT is a continuation of the excellent EGDON HEATH. Sort of, but not really!

In 1999 Egdon Heath retired, following 18 years in the world of prog during which they released four studio albums and a double-live album of their final gig. As from January 2000, Jaap Mulder (keyboards, vocals), Aldo Adema (guitar), Marcel Copini (bass) and Maurits Kalsbeek (vocals) worked on new material with the new drummer Erik Koning, a Genesis fan all his life. Karlsbeek quit the band but the four remaining members continued without a singer for a considerable time, exploring new horizons and experimenting with new influences and styles. Then the band came in contact with Han Uil, singer-songwriter and former singer/guitarist of Antares, and with him in the band, they fine tuned the almost finished compositions, with Han writing the lyrics. The album was at last complete!

Review: Band members Brendt Allman, Carl Cadden-James, Gary Wehrkamp, and new addition Brian Ashland have focused their powerful energies on creating a seamless blend of progressive, metal, and symphonic rock. A transcendent work of musical art, Digital Ghosts advances the boundaries of these genres into new directions.

In 1992, SHADOW GALLERY’s first album, Shadow Gallery was released in Europe and Japan. In 1995, their 2nd album, Carved in Stone was released to wide critical acclaim. The band followed that success with the 1998 release of Tyranny. By this time, there was no doubt that SHADOW GALLERY had established themselves as a major force in progressive metal. Rock critic Larry Daglieri of progressiveworld.net hailed Tyranny as a “masterpiece of prog metal.” In 2001, SHADOW GALLERY released their 4th album, Legacy, their last album on the Magna Carta label. In 2005, SHADOW GALLERY struck again on Inside Out Record label with Room V, which stunned the critics, prompting one reviewer to write “SHADOW GALLERY is for metal what Queen was for rock.” In 2007, SHADOW GALLERY released Prime Cuts, a compilation of featured songs from their Magna Carta catalogue.

Immediately after the release of Room V, SHADOW GALLERY began writing a new musical project for Inside Out records. But tragedy struck in October of 2008 with the death of lead singer Mike Baker. Deeply saddened by his passing, the band vowed to honor their fallen band mate, and the fans who loved him, by moving forward with their 6th studio album, Digital Ghosts. While recording with guest vocalists, the band discovered a comrade in singer Brian Ashland, their newest member.

In true SHADOW GALLERY tradition, Digital Ghosts features guest artists including vocalists Ralf Schepers from “Primal Fear”, Clay Barton of “Suspyre”, guitarist Srdjan Brankovic from “Expedition Delta” and “Alogia”, and keyboardist Vivien Lalu of “Shadrane”. Acclaimed drummer Joe Nevolo returns to guest on three tracks with the band.

Review: SHADOWLAND - a British neo-progressive rock band originally formed in the 1990s, by Clive Nolan (Arena, Pendragon, Caamora) and Karl Groom (Threshold). The band's music tends towards the ‘songy’ side of progressive rock, while retaining its melodic and emotional intensity. They have developed a style that is both complex and easy listening. The band recorded three albums so far: "Ring of Roses" (1992), "Through the Looking Glass" (1994) and "Mad as a Hatter" (1996), their third studio album. Sadly, due to the onset of other commitments, Shadowland took a lengthy break from recording and performing between 1996 and 2008. Late in 2008 Nolan announced that Shadowland would be reforming for a tour in early 2009. Mark Westwood (Caamora, Neo) replaced Ian Salmon on the bass in this 2009 incarnation, but the rest of the original line-up from the 90's remained unchanged. The tour promoted a "best of" album entitled "A Matter of Perspective", featuring the band's favorite tracks from their three previous albums as well as some new material. During the tour, Shadowland also visited Poland. They played at the famous Wyspianski Theatre during the first edition of the progressive rock festival ProgRock 2009. The band’s performance was recorded and is released on the DVD entitled 'Edge of Night'.

To coincidence with the release of Shadowland’s first ever DVD - 'Edge Of Night', Metal Mind Productions will release 'Cautionary Tales', a box featuring the DVD, as well as the re-mastered re-releases of their three studio albums (unavailable for a very long time). Packed with bonus tracks and features, this special limited edition box set provides the complete Shadowland experience!

Review: Silent Memorial and their prog oriented Heavy Metal make people sit up and take notice. 'Retrospective' can easily be compared with the great classics of this music genre and the superb, varied songs, all of which reach the highest standards of this genre.

'Retrospective' is a well-rounded, versatile album, covering the many faces of progressive metal, shining with excellent songs and never losing contact with great melodies. After the opening riff of "Human Minds" has nailed you to your seat, the rest of the song acts as a form of musical time travel, and seems to whisper the name Kansas, especially as far as the abstract keyboard melodies are concerned. The atmospheric 'Differences', dotted with staccato rhythms, is a tremendously aggressive piece by Silent Memorial standards. The guitar work is heavy, but yet emotionally arranged. The keyboards are an elementary factor of the songs and give the material additional volume. Mike Andersson's (Clouscape) vocals are strong. His voice gives enormous intensity to the diverse moods of the various tracks. The versatility of his singing style is even more pronounced on the song 'TV World', a track, which demands absolutely everything from him. The 22 minute long title track is the heart of the albums, uniting the band's refined and complex musicianship all in one song. The high standard is upheld for the entire duration of the track and underlines the fact that the lads were able to cleverly unite passion with a high degree of musical ability. The seven songs of 'Retrospective' are a true celebration party for demanding progressive metal fans, those who do not want to sacrifice driving melodies for quality, but who want to see, or hear both together. Review: Certainly one of the greatest characteristics of the 1970s was the diversity of musical talent on offer. From proto metal through to punk rock all bases were covered, not least of all the establishment of progressive rock. From the giants of the genre such as Yes, ELP and Genesis through to a multitude of lesser known acts, progressive rock became, against all odds, a standard bearer of quality and class. Amongst the emerging grass root acts Starcastle were a fitting addition to the progressive rock ranks. Based in Champaign, Illinois and formed from a couple of local acts, sporting improbable names such as Sea Daddy, St. James and Mad John Fever, the band overcame their geographical isolation by playing anywhere, and everywhere attracting not only a fevered following but also the attention of label leviathans Epic Records. Fronted by former REO Speedwagon vocalist Terry Lutrell, the band crafted a spectacular debut album, pushing at the boundaries of progressive rock. Review: 'Wonderful songs great playing and instinctively beautiful harmonies' (Bob Harris)

The STORYS are a 6 piece 70’s west coast influenced country rock band from South Wales who formed in the spring of 2003. With 4 singer songwriters their sound is both fragile and intense underpinned by a dark lyrical edge. The band can turn from tender county tinged ballad one minute to an as wide as the ocean stomp the next-in the same category as classic harmony vocals bands such as Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Crosby Stills & Nash and The Beatles, all of whom had multiple singers. Steve Balsamo (also of chimpan A) is amongst the excellent singers in the band.

'Town Beyond The Trees' was released last year and is now repackaged with a BONUS second disc of live tracks including 4 tracks from their first much acclaimed self titled album from 2006.

Review: On the 20th of April 2011, at Wyspianski Theatre in Katowice, Poland, Strawberry Fields presented to their audience the band’s very own, unique, subtly simple, magic and, at times, trip-hop-like brand of prog music, crowned with Robin’s – the band’s lead singer’s – mesmerizing, sensual voice. Szadkowski and Robin were accompanied on stage by the former’s fellow musicians from the band Satellite – Sarhan Kubeisi (guitars), Jarek Michalski (bass) and Krzysztof Palczewski (keys) – and together they presented their fans with a genuine musical feast by performing songs from Strawberry Fields’ debut album “River’s Gone Dry” as well as one previously unreleased song.

Also, the band surprised the audience by playing new versions of two memorable songs from Satellite’s repertoire – “Don’t Walk Away in Silence” and “Is It Over” – as also a classic Collage song “Living in the Moonlight”. DVD entitled “Live Strawberry Fields” perfectly captures the magic of that exceptional evening.

Review: On 1st and 2nd May 2009, Historic Royal Palaces allowed a concert to take place in front of the magnificent facade of Hampton Court Palace for the very first time. The event was a full length performance of ‘The Six Wives Of Henry VIII’ by composer Rick Wakeman, his band, choir and orchestra. Rick invited Acoustic Strawbs to warm the audience up - literally! Review: The alternative/progressive rock band Sun Domingo from Atlanta, GA, USA, has been around for several years. Having played hundreds of shows in the USA, they are still relatively fresh to Europe. Their first visit was last year doing a ten-date European tour through five countries with The Pineapple Thief. This (and also supporting Marillion and John Wesley) gained the band serious momentum amongst the alternative, progressive rock fans. During the second half of 2010 some line-up changes took place and it all came together. Founder Edgel Groves completed the new line-up with his longtime friend Kyle Corbett, a musician with a great voice and incredible guitar technique, and being an amazing composer as well. Kyle added a whole new feel to the band.

The album was recorded and engineered by John Holmes, co-produced and mixed by Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and features an all-star cast of guest performances including: Steve Hogarth (Marillion), Adrian Belew (King Crimson, David Bowie), John Wesley (Porcupine Tree) and Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief).

Review: The Hamburg-based band SYLVAN is a force to be reckoned with in artrock. After 11 years in business they can look back at a successful and artistic development and on top of that pride themselves to be one of the few German artrock bands enjoying international success. Here are their milestones: apart from gigs with Marillion, Porcupine Tree and Riverside their concept album masterpiece 'Posthumous Silence' (2006) and the widely celebrated first live dvd of the same name (2008).
