![[CD] NEKTAR - Greatest Hits - Volume 1](cover-nektar-greatesthits1.jpg) [New : M/M] Cat No: EWO049CD Released: 08/08/2011 Reference: 16145
Track Listing: 1.A Tab in the Ocean / 2.Desolation Valley / 3.Remember the Future / 4.Nelly the Elephant / 5.Man in the Moon / 6.Its All Over / 7.Now
Review: The band formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1969, members included Englishmen Roye Albrighton on guitars and vocals, Allan "Taff" Freeman on keyboards, Derek "Mo" Moore on bass, Ron Howden on drums, and Mick Brockett on lights, special effects and other miscellanea. Songwriting was always considered a group effort. The band's early albums such as Journey to the Centre of the Eye, ...Sounds Like This and A Tab in the Ocean were obscure psychedelic rock albums that won the band a small but growing cult following, based largely on word of mouth. The last of those albums was the first Nektar album to be released in the U.S., on the small Passport Records label. It was Nektar's second U.S. release, Remember the Future (1973), that propelled the band briefly into mass popularity. A concept album about a blind boy who communicates with an extraterrestrial being, the music was a big leap forward for the band with a much more melodic sound than on previous albums. It shot into the Top 20 album charts in the U.S. The follow up album, Down to Earth (1974), was another concept album with a circus theme; it also sold well, breaking into the Top 40 album charts and included Nektar's only song to chart on the Billboard singles charts, "Astral Man". The next album, Recycled (1975), was stylistically close to bands like Gentle Giant and is considered by many fans to be Nektar's finest moment.

![[CD] NINE STONES CLOSE - Traces](cover-ninestonesclose-traces.jpg) [New : M/M] Cat No: PRR309 Released: 27/06/2011 Reference: 16046
Track Listing: 1. Reality Check / 2. Threads / 3. Falling To Pieces / 4. Traces / 5. Thicker Than Water
Review: Traces is a journey through loss, growing up and getting older. Letting things go and learning how to move on. Asking questions that don't have immutable answers, telling stories that don't necessarily have happy endings. Coming to terms with things you can't change or control. Mood music not for elevators. Understanding that being alive sometimes means hurting, but somehow uplifting rather than morose.
The influences on this textured sound are quite diverse; a broad spectrum from early 70s to latest technology. Woven deep into the layered fabric of the songs are echoes of Pink Floyd, Marillion, Porcupine Tree and even Camel. Make no mistake, it is an album, not a collection of singles; though each song could stand alone, it deserves to be played in the appropriate sequence (as LPs used to be pre shuffle). Traces, from the thunderous opening instrumental Reality Check to the epic closer Thicker Than Water, is an emotional and musical tour de force. An attempt to tap into the yearning all of us feel to make a mark; to leave something that proves we have existed.

Track Listing: 1. All Sweet Things / 2. Beautiful Songs You Should Know / 3. Pigeon Drummer / 4. Truenorth / 5. Wherever There Is Light / 6. Song Of The Surf / 7. Streaming / 8. Mixtaped
Review: Schoolyard Ghosts is No-Man's sixth official studio album and the band's first since 2003's Together We're Stranger. A powerful combination of memorable and heartfelt songs, ambitious and atmospheric arrangements, and unique and emotive vocals, the album sees the duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) expanding the band's already rich sonic palette by collaborating with the likes of ex-American Music Club pedal steel ace Bruce Kaphan, King Crimson's drumming powerhouse Pat Mastelotto, Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree/King Crimson) and the London Session Orchestra (arranged by Canterbury music legend Dave Stewart). Featuring the hypnotic ballad Wherever There Is Light, the atypically manic Pigeon Drummer and the epic 13 minute semi-orchestral Truenorth, Schoolyard Ghosts represents the most consistent and crafted collection of songs in No-Man's history and looks set to build and improve upon the success of Returning Jesus and Together We're Stranger.

Review: Remixed & re-mastered by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) in 5.1 surround sound high resolution (DVD A disc), plus 5.1 mixes of two bonus tracks from the TWS sessions, the video for Things I Want To Tell You and photo gallery.
'A beautiful, heartfelt album.classic rock 'Britain's most underrated sorrowful sonic architects (Uncut magazine)
'Some of the most spine-chillingly gorgeous music imaginable. (Mojo magazine)
'Together We're Stranger', No-Man's fifth album proper, was its most ambitious and accomplished to date. Coming two years after the critical and word of mouth cult success of 2001s 'Returning Jesus', the album saw the band extending further the reach of its panoramic textural twists on the ballad tradition and firmly establishing itself as one of the most intriguing British bands of the last decade. The duo of Tim Bowness and Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson draws on Chamber Jazz, New Classical, Singer-songwriter and Contemporary Electronica sources for inspiration, uniquely echoing aspects of the work of Talk Talk, Sigur Ros, Red House Painters and the 1970s heyday of uber-conceptualists Pink Floyd and Brian Eno.

Review: New album from Nosound featuring new interpretations of tracks from throughout the band's catalogue.
Formed in Italy in 2001, Giancarlo Erra's Nosound create a seductive and original fusion of elements of progressive, ambient and post rock. Regarded by critics and fans alike as one of the most interesting up and coming alt/art rock bands in Europe, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums on Kscope. The Northern Religion Of Things was recorded during the rehearsal process for a special one-off 'Nosound solo' gig that Erra performed in London in August 2010. For this intimate gig Giancarlo had to create new arrangements for all the tracks along with a completely new live setup that allowed him to play keyboards and/or acoustic guitar while singing as well as using and recreating all the original sounds and effects from the original studio albums. No backtracks were used, only loops/tapes and real live played instruments. He was so pleased with the way the results that the rehearsals were recorded and a selection from the best takes and the songs are presented here. The tracks were recorded straight from stereo outputs with no overdubs or edits involved resulting in unique and personal interpretations of tracks from throughout the band's catalogue.

'Lightdark' sees the Nosound identity evolve into something even more focused and powerful. 'Lightdark' inventively combines influences from '70s psychedelia, '80s/'90s ambient and contemporary progressive rock. Recorded in Italy, England and the US throughout 2006 and 2007, the album develops further the promise of debut album 'Sol29' and exhibits a stronger group identity which reveals a greater contrast between atmospheric detail and the walls of sound created by the band on stage. Highlights include the 15 minute epic 'From Silence to Noise', the ethereal 'The Misplay' (with cellist Marianne DeChastelaine), and the epic piano/mellotron driven ballad 'Someone Starts To Fade Away' (which features No-Man's Tim Bowness on vocals). This 2 disc edition of the album includes an exclusive 5 track bonus disc (which includes the video for Lightdark).
