Review: This man has one of the most distinctive voices in modern day Prog Rock, James LaBrie is known for being the vocalist of progressive giants Dream Theater. He joined the trailblazing fivesome in 1992 and has since recorded eleven studio-albums with Dream Theater. Besides being in the spotlight for the Prog Rock force from New York LaBrie has launched an impressive solo career. “Static Impulse” is his latest masterpiece that reveals astonishing new facets of James LaBrie's music. “Matt and I wanted to make an aggressive album, something that was heavy”, James says. “Today the excitement in the music stems from bands that have a unique sound but are still diverse.” LaBrie and his creative partner, keyboarder Matt Guillory, took even further what they began with “Elements Of Persuasion” in 2005. “The music on “Elements Of Persuasion” was really a good representation of who we were as musicians. Review: Just in time for the bands tenth anniversary, RPWL frontman Yogi Lang contributes the final mosaic piece for RPWLs unmistakable sound. The powerful singer-songwriter's record is set for release in November 2010 and features a top-class recording lineup (e.g. PINK FLOYDs Guy Pratt). After guitarist Kalle Wallners metal-flavored solo records (BLIND EGO) and the progressive PARZIVALS EYE by bassist Chris Postl, Yogi Langs solo debut is set for release and gives us the third and final piece that completes RPWLs mixture. Review: Dutch band LEAP DAY was formed in 2008, but the events leading up to the band formation started a year earlier. Drummer Koen Roozen (Flamborough Head) had been looking for musicians with a desire to play symphonic rock, and in his search met keyboardist Derk Evert Waalkens (King Eider) who was also looking for like-minded musicians. Shortly after vocalist Jos Harteveld (Pink Floyd Project) joined this so far unnamed project. Koen and Derk then started discussing the possibilities of performing the King Eider material at Progfarm 2007. Guitarist Hans Gerritse (King Eider) liked this idea and hooked up for this project, along with bassist Peter Stel (Nice Beaver). They needed another keyboard player for this gig though, and Gert van Engelenburg was asked to join. Gerritse left after the Progfarm gig. The rest of the guys wanted to continue on though, and when guitarist Eddie Mulder (Trion, Pink Floyd Project, Flamborough Head) agreed to join, Leap Day was born. The band's first full length debut album was released in the summer of 2009, named Awaking the Muse.

Review: ESOTERIC RECORDINGS are pleased to announce the release of an expanded 2CD re-mastered edition of the classic 1977 album A MAJOR FANCY by BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST guitarist and vocalist JOHN LEES. Although originally released in 1977 by EMIs HARVEST label, the album was recorded between December 1972 and January 1973 at Abbey Road studios and Strawberry Studios in Stockport. Produced by WALLY ALLEN of the PRETTY THINGS, the album sessions featured a host of notable guest musicians including ERIC STEWART and KEVIN GODLEY (of 10CC), SKIP ALLEN (PRETTY THINGS), GORDON EDWARDS (PRETTY THINGS) and ROD ARGENT (ZOMBIES & ARGENT). The sessions for A MAJOR FANCY also gave birth to the classic CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE along with impressive material such as UNTITLED No. 1 HERITAGE, LONG SHIPS, WITBURG NIGHT and KES (A MAJOR FANCY). Deleted for some years, this Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered and includes a bonus CD featuring five previously unreleased out-takes including the song UNTITLED No. 8 and a first version of CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE with different lyrics. Also included are both sides of Johns rare 1974 Polydor single, THE BEST OF MY LOVE/YOU CANT GET IT, and an out-take from those sessions, PLEASE BE WITH ME. Review: Using the past as a path to a playground of full artistic freedom, Mike Holmes (IQ) has resurrected the original idea of The Lens as a loose band of talented musicians and recorded the album together with veteran Lens drummer Niall Hayden and IQ-companion Paul Cook on drums, supported by saxophonist Tony Wright. Intelligent music for an open minded audience - it is not a progressive rock album and it´s not an ambient album, it´s not post rock and it´s not dance. It´s a smart combination of all those genres that may well be fused together here for the first time. Whatever, it´s a ‘regeneration’ of a fantastic project.

Review: Formed in 2006, LONG DISTANCE CALLING released a demo entitled “Dmnstrtn” in late 2006, with their official debut “Satellite Bay” surfacing in 2007 via Viva Hate Records. A split EP with the band Leech from Switzerland, entitled “090208”, was released in 2008, followed by a deal with Superball Music and the release of their second full length album, “Avoid The Light”, in April 2009. The Münster-Dortmund-Berlin-based German instrumental rock quintet have returned with their third instrumental record, unashamedly staying the course on a scene loaded with power metal, black metal and everything in between, where singers great and small hammer the bands’ messages home.
