On 1st April 1976, Canadian proggers Rush released 2112, the album that would first propel them to the heights of international superstardom. The record was notable in part for its lengthy title track, a seven-part dystopian epic that spanned the entire first side. Despite their label, Mercury’s, objections, 2112 continued the group’s tendency to compose long concept pieces, and as 2112 was Rush’s first major success, going Triple Platinum in the U.S. and Double Platinum in their native Canada, it proved - not surprisingly - that the band knew what would appeal to fans old and new better than the corporation.
In support of 2112, Rush embarked on a mammoth tour of the U.S. and Canada, and by the end of the year had played a staggering 127 dates. Considered to be among the band’s best ever shows, they played the lengthy album title cut in full every night, and the group’s performance at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on 10th December was no exception. With ‘2112’ featuring alongside a host of other classics from across the trio’s catalogue, including ‘Bastille Day’, ‘Fly By Night’ and ‘In The Mood’, the gig was broadcast over FM radio in superb audio quality, and this recording is, now available for fans to enjoy in its entirety on CD for the first time.
