Review: 'Chameleon' follows on from the successful 'Metamorphosis', and may come as a surprise to some fans, so Rob Reed takes up the story:

“After Metamorphosis was released I ploughed straight into the next Magenta album, spending several weeks working flat-out in the studio. I was really happy with what I had written but I got sidetracked with other projects and everything sort of got left on the back burner. Then about six months ago I had another creative spurt and another 50 minutes of great ideas emerged.

When I sat back and took stock of what I had before me I realised that both writing sessions produced distinctive musical styles. The tracks from the first session were quite edgy and more contemporary and the second batch were more traditional, almost like ‘Seven’ in style. It quickly became apparent that I had written two completely different sounding albums. I decided to then make each album independently, and also to try a different recording process for the more contemporary songs.

Christina and I also had a few tracks that we had written together that were going to be future Magenta singles, so along with the edgier material, we had plenty of pieces that she could start writing lyrics for. We then got Kieran Bailey into the studio and it wasn’t long before we had recorded the drums for eight new Magenta tracks. Chris Fry then came and weaved his magic and before long what originally was planned as a new single, or possibly an EP, had escalated into a great sounding album."

Review: 'Live At Real World’ is a 3 disc set of Magenta's acoustic performance at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studio recorded in November 2009. This special package features a 2 CD recording of the concert, with the addition of three bonus tracks recorded at Real World the following day. A DVD is also included featuring NTSC (region 0) format video of the entire concert (92 min) with audio in stereo and 5.1 mixes. Extras include a 5.1 mix of ‘Joe’ from ‘Home’, the promotional video for ‘Blind Faith’ and two photo galleries.

“Saturday 21st November 2009 will linger long in the memories of around 60 lucky Magenta fans as Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios near Bath, UK, played host to the band’s first live acoustic recording.

This is a visual record of a remarkable event. With Rob Reed making use of the Wooden Room’s superb acoustic piano, and the band supplemented by a string quartet and oboe player, Magenta present beautiful new arrangements of many of its best known pieces. As well as extensive excerpts from both the ‘Home’ and ‘Metamorphosis’ albums, there are rare outings for ‘Greed’ (from ‘Seven’) and both ‘Cold’ and ‘Lemminkainen’s Lament’ (from ‘The Singles’).

Review: Recorded at the band's home venue the Point in Cardiff at the end of 2007, the DVD marked an end of an era for the band. Not only was it the last concert in support of their third album Home, but it also marked the last performance of that line up of the band. Full of Magenta's usual passion and energy, the DVD features a set list largely different from the Gathering, released in 2005. As well as a suite of songs from Home, the DVD also features Envy and a rare performance of Sloth from Seven, as well as the bands show-stopping new arrangement of Anger. Material from the Revolutions album includes a stunning new arrangement of Man the Machine, plus fan-favourite The Warning. The show kicks off with a powerful version of single Speechless.

As well as the concert footage, the DVD also features a concert documentary, tech-talk interviews with Chris Fry, Martin Rosser and recording engineer Tim Lewis, plus the Speechless video and a photo gallery. In NTSC format with fantastic 5.1 and stereo mixes by Rob Reed, this is a DVD no Magenta fan can be without.

Review: Magenta – The Singles will contains 14 tracks consisting of every song that has made up the band's four EP / singles. Eight of these tracks have been specially re-recorded exclusively for this release, and none of them have been available on a full length CD before.

Rob Reed explains the decision to release the album: 'Most of these songs have been an important part of Magenta's live set for several years now and they have evolved as the band has performed them live. We felt it was time to record and release definitive versions
with our current line up, which includes Dan Fry on bass. We hope that fans of the band that have our three albums, but have not yet had the chance to hear these songs, will enjoy this equally important aspect of the band's music. However, we hope that those that already have some of this material will appreciate how these songs have evolved over time and that you all love the new versions."

Included on the CD is Night and Day (originally recorded with Annie Haslam) which features a complete lead vocal from Christina for the first time, plus Sunshine Saviour, a new piece adapted from 'Children of the Sun' from the band's first album Revolutions.

The three bonus tracks contain an additional 25 minutes of music including the full 14-minute director's cut of "Pride". Total running time 79 minutes.
